Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

Discourse Construction Tests

The discourse completion test is a popular tool in the field of pragmatic research. It has many strengths, but it also has some drawbacks. For example it is that the DCT cannot take into account cultural and personal differences in communication. Furthermore the DCT is prone to bias and could result in overgeneralizations. It should be carefully analyzed before it is used in research or evaluation.

Its ability in two or more stages to alter social variables that affect politeness can be a strength. This ability can be used to study the role of prosody across cultural contexts.

In the field of linguistics, the DCT is now one of the most important tools for analyzing learners' behaviors in communication. It can be used to examine various issues such as politeness, turn-taking, and lexical choices. It can be used to determine the level of phonological sophistication in learners' speech.

A recent study employed an DCT to evaluate EFL students' ability to resist. The participants were given various scenarios and were asked to choose the appropriate response from the options provided. Metapragmatic Questionnaires (MQs)

This study examined Chinese learners making pragmatic choices when using Korean. It employed various experimental tools including Discourse Completion Tasks, metapragmatic questions and 프라그마틱 정품 사이트 Refusal Interviews. Participants were 46 CLKs of upper-intermediate who participated in DCTs, MQs, 프라그마틱 게임 and RIs. They were also required to provide reflections on their assessments and their refusals to participate in RIs. The results showed that CLKs are more likely to resist native Korean pragmatism norms. Their choices were influenced by four factors: their personalities and multilingual identities, their ongoing life experiences, as well as their relational affordances. These findings have pedagogical consequences for L2 Korean assessment.

The MQ data was first analyzed to identify the participants' practical choices. The data were classified according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, we compared their choices made by the participants with their linguistic performance using DCTs to determine if they were indicative of a pragmatic resistance. The interviewees were asked to justify their choice of pragmatic behavior in a specific situation.

The results of the MQs, DCTs and z-tests were analysed using descriptive statistics and z tests. It was discovered that the CLKs frequently resorted to euphemistic responses such as "sorry" and "thank you." This could be due to their lack of familiarity with the target language which led to an insufficient knowledge of korea pragmatic norms. The results revealed that CLKs' preference to diverge from L1 and L2 norms or to be more convergent towards L1 varied depending on the DCT circumstances. For example, in Situation 3 and 12, the CLKs preferred to diverge from both L1 and L2 pragmatic norms, whereas in Situation 14 they preferred converging to L1 norms.

The RIs also revealed that CLKs were aware of their own pragmatism in each DCT situation. The RIs were conducted one-toone within two days after the participants completed the MQs. The RIs, which were transcribed and recorded by two coders independent of each other who then coded them. The coding process was an iterative process, in which the coders discussed and read each transcript. The results of coding are compared with the original RI transcripts to determine whether they reflected the actual behavior.

Refusal Interviews (RIs)

A key question of pragmatic research is why learners decide to rescind native-speaker pragmatic norms. Recent research attempted to answer this question by using various experimental tools, including DCTs MQs and RIs. The participants consisted of 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. Participants were asked to complete the DCTs and MQs either in their L1 or their L2. They were then invited to an RI, where they were asked to think about and discuss their responses to each DCT situation.

The results showed that CLKs on average, 프라그마틱 정품 확인법 did not follow the pragmatic norms of native speakers in more than 40 percent of their responses. They did this even though they could produce native-like patterns. They were also aware of their pragmatism resistance. They outlined, for instance, how their relations with their professors enabled them to perform more comfortably in terms of the cultural and linguistic expectations of their university.

These results suggest that native speakers pragmatic norms aren't the norm for Korean learners. They could still be useful for official Korean proficiency tests. Future researchers should reconsider the usefulness of these tests in various contexts and in particular situations. This will help them better understand the effects of different cultures on the pragmatic behavior and classroom interactions of L2 students. Moreover it will assist educators to develop more effective methodologies for teaching and testing korea pragmatics. Case Studies

The case study method is an investigative strategy that uses participant-centered, in-depth investigations to investigate a particular subject. Interviewees were presented with two scenarios which involved interactions with their co-workers and were asked to choose one of the strategies listed below to use when making a demand. They were then asked to provide the reasons behind their decision. Most of the participants attributed their rational opposition to their personalities. TS, for example said she was difficult to approach and refused to inquire about the health of her co-worker when they were working at a high rate despite the fact that she thought native Koreans would.
