We asked Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right home. They looked at storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other aspects.

Like its name implies, GE’s Profile series is aimed at those who wish to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchen. The refrigerator is brimming with features, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a sophisticated water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive, so I expected better.

Aside from that blip the fridge is a great choice. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth French door fridges, and it holds a fair amount of frozen food compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It has a decent sized refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. However it's not the most spacious one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to make the perfect storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. The LED lighting adds a nice touch. The in-door storage bins have a third shelf which can be folded down to store large items. The drawers come with temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to open and shut, but I found the textured plastic coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support, and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices allows you to control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and offers numerous options for customization. It will also send you notifications when the door is left unlocked and when the freezer or fridge needs to be defrosted, and when the filter needs to be changed.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill, an option available in a handful of other GE refrigerators that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to pour out simultaneously. The fridge shows a countdown to display how much water is left but it's not as effective as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is an eye-catching piece. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment which keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer periods, and dual compressors to preserve food items. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient, and it produces an ice pyramid with only a little water. This fridge is perfect for a small household or kitchenette that needs an attractive design and top of the line food preservation.

The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never changed more than a tiny fraction - this is crucial to avoid freezer burn. While the fridge is an amazing appliance but it's important to be aware of the limitations. It has a narrow shelf space, so you may need to be creative when storing tall items. Additionally the shelves aren't completely sprillproof, and can easily be stained or damaged by sharp objects. The trays can be easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with an ordinary French door design, with two rows of shelves that can be used to capture spills and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer to store deli items and an internal water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker making it easy to move the frozen ice as needed. The freezer also has clever design features, like sliding drawers that can help you organize your items. It comes with a large bin for storing frozen food, and a separate bin for ice.

Another awesome feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. It lets you control the fridge's temperature as well as lighting using your smartphone. It's a simple way to monitor your refrigerator and control it, especially when away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't enhance the efficiency of the fridge. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than other refrigerators we tried. This could be due to its greater capacity.

The other issue we have with this refrigerator is its doors. The sunken handles allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However, taller people still struggle to close them without slamming. It would have been better if these had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those looking to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also a little less than the most expensive counter depth refrigerator that comes with an ice maker, which makes it an attractive choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It's a basic refrigerator that may not be as attractive as its rivals however, it does have enough features to make it a an excellent choice. Its most important feature is the temperature adjustable drawer which helps keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large ice maker and a water dispenser.

Another great feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. The drawer lets you use a portion of your fridge's cooling power to the area so it can be used to store food items which need extra attention. I've noticed that the generic settings are more effective than the specific ones.

In my experiments, I noticed that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the refrigerator. This is a solid performance but isn't quite at the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey body which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It is capable of removing streaks and fingerprints even when compared to the shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
